"The course is extremely well organized and a safe space to both learn and grow. There is room to share, integrate, and ask questions about your own practices and experiences without feeling judged. I personally feel it's critical information for anyone who works with bodies and teaches a strong foundation for learning how to interact with ALL people in a way that is conscious and respectful of their individuality and experiences as a human being." - TIWL Graduate

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • Define & differentiate between chronic stress, trauma, PTSD, Complex PTSD, and complex trauma
  • Theories and research behind weight lifting as an adjunctive treatment for trauma survivors
  • The neurophysiological, psychological and emotional toll of traumatic experiences
  • Learn trauma-informed strategies that promote body awareness, attentional focus, and strength to enhance the resilience and long-term success of clients and athletes.
  • How practitioner self-awareness, including one’s own trauma history and biases, shapes the safety and effectiveness of trauma-informed training.

A NOTE ABOUT LEARNING VERSUS HEALING

This program is for professional development and learning. We recognize that although many of us may have experiences of trauma, the time we spend together will not be an intervention for our own individual healing. Talking and learning about trauma, even in the context of a training, can be triggering.
